Ever heard about Mobile Canvas or truck art? If not then you are certainly missing out a very innovative and beautiful world of art and design. Truck Art is not new especially in South Asia it has a history of nearly 90 years. It was all started in 1920 when people started decorating their buses to have more passengers.
The idea worked perfectly and people loved it. Ustad Elahi Buksh was the first artist who became known craftsmen in this field. His ancestors were very famous among Moghul Empire and did a lot of creative work for the king of the time. Elahi employed some artists in Chiniot, Pakistan. Since then the art form has become famous all around the world. Artist from Pakistan often goes abroad in international exhibitions to represent a true cultural art form before foreign publics.
Following pictures were taken on road from Islamabad to Lahore and drivers were showing off their glowing trucks as a symbol of pride.
Eastern Truck Art:
Western Truck Art:
Trucks are also used a canvas in western world where you will find them alluring and interestingly designed. However, in western world the difference is the inclination towards advertisement rather than cultural promotion. The truck in west are used to advertise different products or services. They are mobile, can reach to wider audience and are free for geographical bindings. So, the use of truck is almost similar and that is goods transportation but trucks as a canvas has totally different meanings in eastern and western world.
We present both cultures, usage and art. You choose the best.
