Web Design Crime

8 Crimes of Designing E Commerce Website

Technology has brought the world at our finger tips and made life simpler. E commerce or electronic commerce is a term used to refer buying and selling products online. It can also be used to refer to other services provided online which also includes transfer of money, buying and selling of the products and advertisement. It is a very competitive market out there on the internet and one has to make extra efforts to stand out in the crowd. One way to do it is to get a website that speaks for itself. A good web designer can accomplish the uphill task of creating a website that speaks for the company as well as enhance its sale.

However things can go terribly wrong if the website for your e commerce site is not what you want it to be. Here are lists of blunders that can ruin that perfect e commerce website.

1- Too much on the web pages

The sole purpose of the web site is to advertise the business venture and to promote the intention of the venture. It should contain all the information regarding the venture. However an information overload can ruin the website and too much graphics can actually make it very inconvenient to get to the desired information. So try to keep the look simple and at the same time do include the important information.

2- Loss of call to action

There are certain tabs that are made on the web page to lure users to click them to redirect the user to another page. These have to be carefully placed and made with an interesting color pattern. The attractive logos are what lures the user to click on these sites, however if these are covered and not highlighted properly might miss the attention of the viewer. One has to ensure a good contrast and attractive graphics to highlight these tabs.

3- Too many links in the same site

Although the website has link references, one has to be very cautious in planting them. Too many links are confusing for the user and at most times lands up at an undesirable webpage. This in turn makes the user loose the interest on the site and is also a sign of mismanagement. The web designer should be careful not to put too many links in one page.

4- Size of buttons and other features

It is common knowledge that the bigger the button is, the more attention it grabs. Ensure that the button to reach the desired location should be highlighted well. The user should be able to understand the button even at a glance. This enhances visibility and thereby increases the curiosity to click on it. Other non important aspects of the page should be kept low key and considerably small.

5- Placement of the buttons

A very important aspect the web designer should focus on is the placement of links and buttons. At most sites which are a perfect example of horrible web sites have very bad placements of important tabs and buttons. The user should not be fumbling for the button and it should be placed at the correct position on the web page. Generally the top most corner is the best place to locate the most important buttons , however this might vary.

6- Text buttons and its importance

The thumb rule to edit texts for the buttons is to keep it short and simple. One should avoid lengthy text messages and other complicated forms that might hinder the understanding of the user. Make sure they add a tone of urgency to the messages.

7- Short goals

Don’t scare the user with detailed information on all the steps of the deal. If the goal of the web page is to lure the user to just take the nest step by a simple click, ensure this is the only message the web site conveys. Avoid the details as these are unnecessary and loses out on users.

8- Avoid jazzy messages and tacky fonts

E commerce sites are meant for business and one should keep it in mind while web designing. Avoid casual use of graphics and loud texts that actually don’t match with the product. Avoid too much of colors or unnecessary texts to fill gaps, just make a simple and authentic effort at the designing. Creativity is the thumb rule at making the best web sites.

A webpage always has highlighted content that refers to other links in the website. A web designer should be very careful with the color schemes of the text and the background. Using very light shades on equally light background can make it really difficult for the user to read. At times important information can be overlooked due to the same problem, therefore one must keep an eye on the color pattern of the web site.
